GOAL:

Network of computer-attached sensors instantaneously reporting data during earthquakes.

Earthquakes are devastating natural disasters with aftershocks that last days, months, and even weeks, further damaging buildings and utilities. The project links sensor-equipped laptops and desktops worldwide in an effort to create the largest strong motion seismic network. The Quake Catcher Network joins together individuals with software that improves earthquake science, monitoring, and awareness. Volunteering your computer also adds to the Quake Catcher Network’s Rapid Aftershock Mobilization Program (RAMP) which aims to rapidly deploy seismic sensors to any city in the world hit by a major earthquake to understand how, when, and where aftershocks happen.
