GOAL:

Empower people to test for lead in water in their own homes.

The research team from Virginia Tech that was crucial to cracking the case of lead poisoning in Flint, Michigan, has a website full of tools for citizen scientists. Not only will you learn about the lead crisis in Flint, but empowered with information and clear instructions, you may be able to start your own investigation. First, read about stories from the community members of Flint who were affected by lead. Does your story sound similar? Next, you can find out about how your community can win grants from the government so you can test your own water for lead. There are podcasts and lectures to help with your research. You can use the Flint Water Study tools to model your own citizen science project if you think your water is contaminated with lead too.
