GOAL:

Supporting communities in doing their own air quality monitoring

Here’s a citizen science project for our friends in the UK! Concerned about the level of pollution of the streets where you live, work, and play? Organize your own neighborhood group through the Community Air Quality Monitoring, organized by the “Extreme Citizen Science” group (ExCiteS) at University College London. They’ll provide you with the materials and support required to measure pollution in your area. (ExciteS co-founder, Muki Haklay, is an Advisor to C&C.) On their website you can find detailed instructions for using air quality measurement tools, like diffusion tubes, which proved effective in the Barbican. There’s also an app which lets you record data and contribute to a community map detailing air quality in your neighborhood.
