GOAL:

Help assess ocean conditions by submitting sightings of jellyfish.

Jellyfish are both notorious and fascinating, so if you’ve seen one be sure to report it to JellyWatch. It’s a citizen science project dedicated to documenting ocean conditions through a global public database. They are especially interested in jellyfish that have been washed ashore, so watch your step! JellyWatch isn’t limited to jellyfish, they also need reports of red tides, squid and mammal strandings, and other indicators of ocean health. All the data submitted is open source, and they welcome reports as well as images. If you regularly find yourself on the beach, boat trips, or scuba dives, you can create an account for your specific location. You can also report clean seas and beaches, along with jellyfish and other more unusual events. Students, teachers, and scientists can use the data to conduct research using information gathered from around the globe.
