GOAL:

Develop an open technology platform for citizen observatories on air quality.

Humans are exposed to air pollution every day, which has serious health and lifespan implications. hackAIR is a citizen science project that will contribute towards individual and collective awareness about Europe’s air quality. Through low cost sensors and mobile tech, the project aims to inspire changes in behavior towards air quality improvements. It is supported through the EU programme on “Collective Awareness Platforms for Sustainability and Social Innovation” until December 2018, with pilot projects launching in Norway and Germany starting September 2017. The hackAIR open platform will enable communities of citizens to easily engage their members in generating and publishing information relevant to outdoor air pollution, leveraging online social networks, mobile and open hardware technologies, and engagement strategies.
