GOAL:

Help scientists track firefly populations by counting fireflies.

Time for a new tradition: citizen science in the dark! Firefly Watch combines the warm, summer evening ritual of firefly gazing with scientific research. Presented by the Boston Museum of Science and researchers from Tufts University and Fitchburg State College, Firefly Watch needs you to track the fate of these bright little insects. Their goal is to monitor population numbers of fireflies and determine what affects these numbers, for good or bad. Join a network of fellow citizen scientists and track your progress online. You simply count the fireflies in your backyard, or a nearby field. By participating, you’ll learn more about these enchanting and fascinating creatures, and you won’t have to leave your backyard.
