GOAL:

Help ornithologists learn about 16 key species of urban birds by tracking them, and inspire city kids to get into birding.

You don’t have to go far from home to find wildlife in the city, and Celebrate Urban Birds is a citizen science project that proves it. No matter where you live, you can watch birds and participate in activities focused on birds and neighborhood habitat improvement. By participating, you’ll be helping scientists at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology (one of the leaders in all aspects of citizen science in the United States) learn more about urban birds and their behavior. Learn about 16 species of birds that may be found in your area, by simply watching a space about the size of half a basketball court for 10 minutes for any of those birds. If they show up, record it! Celebrate Urban Birds provides all of the necessary materials to get you started. The data you collect is used to study resident and migratory birds and their interaction with urban environments.
