Tyler is a Postdoctoral Researcher at Scripps Institution of Oceanography in San Diego, CA. He mainly studies the carbon cycle and biogeochemistry of coral reefs and other coastal ecosystems. Before joining Scripps, Dr. Cyronak earned his PhD from Southern Cross University in Australia and spent time studying the Great Barrier Reef. Currently he is working on Smartfin, a citizen science project that uses surfers to collect valuable ocean chemistry data in coastal zones. Tyler is excited to be able to combine two of his passions, surfing and science, into one great project that will help to inform the public about ocean health and climate change.
