Kristy Murray
BIO

Before becoming an Associate Professor in Tropical Medicine Pediatrics at the Baylor College of Medicine, Kristy was a member of the Center for Disease Control’s Epidemic Intelligence Service. She studied how diseases impact populations as a whole. “It's detective work. It's taking all these pieces of the puzzle and pulling them together in different ways to be able to understand what it is, how it's affecting people, and especially to figure out, then, what can we do to stop it,” Kristy says of her investigative research. Kristy is also Associate Vice-Chair of Research for Pediatrics, and Assistant Dean for Faculty and Academic Development at the National School of Tropical Medicine. She believes that citizen science plays a large role in science communication, and that putting the control back in the hands of ordinary people will inspire them to enact change.
