GOAL:

Learn more about lionfish in Florida waters through volunteer reporting.

Lionfish are an invasive species that negatively impact native species and habitat. The Florida Fish and Wildlife and Conservation Commission encourages everyone from recreational divers and anglers to commercial harvesters, to remove lionfish from Florida waters. Reef Rangers is a program in which volunteers pledge to remove lionfish from their local reefs 2-3 times per year to help keep lionfish numbers down. If you want to know where to find reefs, you can use the Reef Rangers’ interactive map to choose one for which you will be responsible. Sustained local removal efforts helps keep lionfish populations down, which protects native ecosystems from invasion.
