GOAL:

Collect air quality data through a community-led sensing network.

Volunteers with the Citizens for Clean Air in Grand Junction use Wicked Device's Air Quality Egg to measure pollution in their community. Their pollution problems range from agricultural burning, forest fires, inefficient wood burning stoves used in the winter, leaks of volatile organics from fracking activities, and vehicle exhaust. The local air pollution monitoring stations were limited. One for ozone, one for particulates, none for volatile organics or N2O. To understand where pollution was coming from, they needed to find a way to increase the number of monitoring stations and scatter them around the valley. But official air monitoring equipment starts at around $2,000 and goes up from there. Enter the Air Quality Egg!
